Ave!
Key, Roman, c. 1st-3rd Century, Iron Deposits
Copper alloy; 55mm/26.1gm
Con/ Small break on the loop, otherwise, as fabricated; eleven grooves throughout, glossy green patina with iron deposits, cleaned and waxed
Seller's Note/ Such large Roman keys could have been used for small doors, large chests or cabinets.
The iron deposits on the key were certainly from it being connected to an iron ring (perhaps with many other keys) that has long disintegrated into the earth. Very rare in this condition.
