Roman  Phallic Pendent, Silvered, 1st-3rd Cent AD

Seller's Note/ The shapes of such pendents vary with length and size of the phallus. Did I really just write that? LOL!

Anyway, the shape of this one is rather distinctive and NRC has only seen one like it before. (Click here to see it.) Note the peculiar rendition of the head, the bowed shape, and the oddly placed testicles. As both were ground-found in the same fields south of the River Drava, there can be no doubt whatsoever that each were fabricated by the same artisan.

Phallus pendents were worn by Roman men and women as either a 'Good Luck' charm, as a fertility amulet, and to ward off evil influences, as well.
