Roman Copper Aglet*, 1st-2nd Cent
Copper alloy; 57mm/3.8gm
Con/ Intact, green patina, cleaned and waxed.
Seller's Note/ Is there nothing useful that the ancient Romans did not discover, including aglets? Just like our shoe laces, rope ends became frayed in Roman times and difficult to thread through holes. As seen in the photo, all it took was a thin sheet of copper alloy folded like an ice cream cone about the rope end or leather strap and Bob's (Ceasar's) your uncle.
*An 'aglet' is the word used to describe the plastic thing at the end of a shoe lace.
