Ave!

Key, Openwork, Cabinet or Box, ca. 1st-3rd Cent. AD

Copper alloy; 61mm/17.8gm.

Con/ As Cast and Engraved; deep green patina; cleaned but not waxed.

Seller's Note/ A bit too small for a door key, ancient Romans used such medium-sized keys to lock away their precious valuables in small boxes or cabinets either of wood or metal. Such openwork cabinet keys like this are quite scarce in such condition.
