Ave!

Glass Bottle, Roman, Unguentarium, ca. 1st Cent AD, Stunning!

Con/ About As Fabricated; see the notes below.

Description/ Free-blown in violet glass, squat piriform body, long cylindrical neck widening to body, rim everted and then folded in, flat bottom with no pontil mark.

Seller's Note/ As we believe in full discloser, after full cleaning and removal of nearly all encrustations, we discovered that the top of the vessel was broken in antiquity. See the final two photos. Now professionally repaired.

The iridescence in our example is truly magnificent. Every way you turn it, you'll discover a myriad of rainbow colors.
