Ave!

Brooch, Pannonian Anchor-type, Zoomorphic, ca. 100-175 AD, RARE!

Copper alloy; 49mm/25.7gm

Con/ Small break on one anchor tip, otherwise, As Fabricated. Superb and nearly unblemished dark green patina; residual rusting from the iron pin within the spring. Cleaned and waxed.

Seller's Note/ Why zoomorphic? If you look closely at photos, you'll spy a tiny figure, only 7mm, slightly below the top of the bow. The Pannonian's had an affinity for adding birds to their brooches, in most cases a water fowl such as a duck etc. But is it a bird? Sheri and I are both convinced that it is a frog. If so, this brooch in such Museum Quality condition is so over-the-top-rare you'll slide down the other side.
