Pre-Columbian Bowl, Paya Culture, c. 6th-8th Cent. AD
Wood-fired terra-cotta; 115mm diameter/ 361gm
Lovely dot pattern about the top with two zoomorphic images opposite each other on the vessel brim.
Con/ near perfect with a few minimal chips and dings.
The Paya culture (not the well-known Maya) was located on the Bay Islands, Honduras. Not nearly as sophisticated as thier Maya neighbors and trading partners on the mainland, the Paya were certainly influenced by them. The two zoomorphic images are inexplicable to my eyes.
