Hair Pin, Skeuomorphic, 'Elegant Lady', c. 1st-3rd Cent

Ave!

Hair Pin, Skeuomorphic, 'Elegant Lady', c. 1st-3rd Cent

Copper alloy: 14cm/14.5gm, complete with green patina, cleaned not waxed.

Seller's Note/ Roman ladies tended to wear pins with lovely designs such as birds or hands holding a pearl on the finial. Ours features the head and mantled bust of an elegant lady with the upper part of the pin wrapped with wire. Note in the photo that either a small gem stone or enameling was set into pin. I showed this pin to Sheri and asked her about the wire-wrapping as it looked a bit clunky. She stuck it into her hair and said that the wrapping actually helped keep the pin in place. Another Roman technological marvel. :-)

Our price for this charming, decorative and collectable hair pin is just right...considering its rarity.
