Con/ Fill cover post broken and a few minor plow scrapes, otherwise, As Cast. Eye-pleasing green and brown patina.

Seller's Note/ The shape and size of this massive lamp is similar to those found in the Balkans, but not quite the same as those have only two holes, one for the wick and the other for filling, unlike ours that has three holes. Of further curiosity, is that this lamp was never designed for hanging via chains as is often seen. Note in the photos that the three equidistant lugs on the top were never drilled to hold the previously mentioned chains. The broken post in the center would not have worked to hang the lamp; too wonky and unbalanced.

Due to the size and heft, an expensive lamp like this would have been used to light the rooms of a wealthy Roman provincial villa for many years, perhaps even for generations of the family.
