Ave!

Danube Celts, Æ Tetradrachm, Pendent, ca 2nd Cent. BC

Beginning about 300 BC, the Danubian Celtic tribes began to imitate the images on the coins of Philip and Alexander the Great (Zeus obverse and Horse reverse) but in their own particular style.

Æ 24mm/7.0gm   "Kugelwange" type

Con/ After appropriate cleaning, about Very Fine for the issue, glossy dark green patina.

Obv/ Laur. bust of Zeus r. (Celtic-style) ;-)

Rev/ Free horse prancing left

Seller's Note/ One day, over two thousand years ago, a Celtic individual holed this coin to wear as a pendent. NRC has listed any number of such "holed" Roman coins but never one of Celtic origin. Wow!

Yeah, I know it appears a bit gnarly now, but after cleaning, an application of Ren Wax will make its appearance much, much better.
