Ave!

DIY, Roman era Trumpet-style Celtic Brooch, c. 2nd Cent AD

Copper alloy, 39mm/11.5gm, pin intact, cleaned and waxed.

Con/ One trumpet end missing, otherwise, fully intact with original pin and spring. Very easy to clean with soft dirt; you know the drill.

Seller's Note/ As the Romans began to assimilate the local Pannonian and Dalmatian Celtic warriors into their Legions during the 1st-2nd century, they brought their own influences as per belt adornments and brooches as well. This particular brooch emulates their ancient carnyx battle horn they blew before battles during the Iron Age, between c. 200 BC and c. 200 AD.

Broken or not, this is a great deal for this scarce and historically important brooch. Compare it to this one that NRC sold in the past.
