Ave!

Bronze Age Bucket Amulet, Urnfield Culture c. 1000-800 BC, With Surprise!

Copper alloy; 35mm/18.60gm

Con/ about As Cast, original dark bronze patina; cleaned and waxed. A very rare and beautiful artifact; museum quality.

Description/ Ovoid bucket with handle, from which a small bird peaks out. And that is the surprise!

From a small hoard of axes, sword hilts and spear points found near the Danube River. Such hoards were often deposited near rivers and wet places like swamps. As these areas were often quite inaccessible, they most probably represent gifts to the gods. The reason that this 3000-year-old amulet is in such fantastic condition is due to the lack of oxygen in the river mud which inhibits corrosion.

Seller's Note/ This 3000-year old bronze amulet is remarkable in such "as cast" condition. Why it was made, for what purpose, and why the addition of the tiny bird, is open to conjecture. Simply superb, it will be a true gem for even the most discerning Bronze Age Celtic collector.
