Ave!

Celtic, Male Statuette, Talisman, ca. 5th-3rd Cent BC

Copper alloy; 57mm/25.0gm

Con/ Missing head from plow destruction, otherwise, As Cast.

Seller's Note/ This very rare bronze figurine of a naked Celtic warrior (?) missing his head is rather obvious. But not seen in the photo is a clear and crisp break. Contrariwise, his missing arms show no breaks at all, both are smooth and as cast. Why no arms? Who knows as Celtic peoples saw things very differently from us. Of further interest, take closer look at the final photo of his genitals. The penis appears to have been thrusting upwards rather than simply hanging. If so, it is an Ithyphallic representation of an erect penis, often relating to fertility cults or Bacchic processions.

This ancient artifact was certainly used as a Talismanic object and carried in a small pouch or leather bag for it's magical, protective, fertility, and good-luck-inducing powers.

WOW!
