Braca Knaus Zagreb, WWII, Military Badge
Tin; 20mm/0.08gm ca. 1941-1945
Con/ About as fabricated; cleaned not waxed
Obv/ Two arms flanking and hands grasping a Papal cross, two stars above. The papal cross is a Christian cross, which serves as an emblem for the office of the Pope in ecclesiastical heraldry. It is depicted as a staff with three horizontal bars near the top, in diminishing order of length as the top is approached
Rev/ BRACA KNAUS ZAGREB; attachment pin intact. The reverse legend is in German, not Croatian, and translates to the Knaus Brothers in Zagreb, Croatia.
Seller's Note/ When the Axis powers (Germany and Italy) rolled into the former Yugoslavia they created what they called the puppet state of Independent State of Croatia 10 April 1941. During the next few years (1941-1945), the Knaus Brothers fabricated any number of exquisite military knives, medals, and various badges, all in the behalf of their German masters.
After many hours searching, we cannot find any other even similar badge as ours. Rare? You tell me.
