Ave!

Avar, Belt End, c. 6th-7th Cent AD

Copper alloy; 36mm/5.2gm

Con/ "As Cast:, green patina, two attachment pins in place

Sellers Note/ This beautiful strap end features wonderful sinuosity, nearly in Celtic style with a diamond pattern surrounded with a curly que-pattern. Rare in this sublime condition. As noted before, the Avar's liked lots of shiny adornments, the more the better!

A number straps were attached to their belts, which in turn hung down and created a flashy bling as they rode their horses into battle. This is certainly one of such flashy strap ends as the two two attachment pins would have never gone through a belt buckle.
