Ave!
Celtic Proto Ring Money, Restored, c. 600-400 BC
Copper alloy; 35mm/5.3gm
Con/ Fully restored to "like new" condition.
Seller's Note/ Long before the introduction of struck coinage into ancient Europe and the Mediterranean, such rings were used as trade currency, by weight, by Celtic peoples. These particular rings, often refered to as "proto-money", were cast by Celtic smiths residing along the western coast of the Black Sea, as long ago as 7th Cent. B.C. Our's is an excellent example of what such ring money would have looked like, all bright and shiny, when the Celtic traders would have arrived by boat near your village on the Danube River, 2,500 years ago.
FYI - Sheri says this ring would make an awesome pendent!
