Ave!
Celtic, Votive Axe, ca. 4th-2nd Cent BC
Lead; 48mm / 54.7gm
Con/ Plow-bent with scrapes and dings, otherwise, As Cast; white lead patina
Seller's Note/ This curious artifact, being made of soft lead, was never meant to be used as a tool. We can only surmise that it could have been a votive offering to the Celtic Gods. Whether or not it had a wooden handle before being buried is moot; any traces of wood would have disintegrated after over 2,400 years in the ground.
Extremely Rare!
