Celtic, Necklace Pendent, c. 700-400 BC, Rare
Copper alloy;26mm/10.1gm
Con/ As Cast but used; Dark green patina, cleaned and waxed.
Seller's Note/ Perhaps artifact began as 'proto-money' and then attached to a thong and used as a necklace pendent. As seen in the photo, it was worn for many years, perhaps generations, passed down from mother to daughter, as a valuable family heirloom?
Extremely Rare, this pendent was ground found in a Celtic settlement south of the River Drava.
Such 'proto money' was used as a trading commodity (currency) before the introduction of struck coins in the Eastern Danube region and the Black sea area by the Celtic tribes and were marketed by their weight. The most common types were simple round rings, while others had a few knobs or lugs that were worn as beads or jewelry in one manner or another.
