Ave!
Hair Band, Bronze age, Celtic, ca, 500-200 BC
Copper alloy; 5.6gm Ring size 3
Con/ as fabricated; dark green patina
Seller's Note/ Celtic women wore their hair in plated into braids and they would have been inserted within the band, not only as a shiny adornment but to also the keep their braids intact. As many as a dozen or more of such hair bands would have been applied for that extra 'bling'!
This is one of the most primitive of metal hair bands, consisting of a single coiled copper wire, and was common from the Bronze Age to early Iron Age. As this ring was ground-found in a small Celtic settlement, our attribution is assured. But again, such artifacts are extremely difficult to date and could be much older than noted above...possibly as early as 1500 BC...?
