Macedon, King Antigonos Gonatas, Athena with Counter-mark, 329-277 BC has been added to your Cart

Ave!

Avar, Belt Stiffener, c. 8th Cent.

Copper alloy; 33mm/4.7gm

Con/ As Cast; lovely pale green patina

Ref/ Avar findings from Ozora-Tótipuszta, Hungary. As presented in the 2nd photo, 3rd low, far left.

Seller's Note/ What with all the bling and adornments hanging from their belts, they needed a way to stiffen them up so the leather wouldn't bend. As see in the photo, the two studs would have been attached to the belt via slits in the leather and facing outward.

Rare!
