Turkish Dagger Sheath Adornment, Ottoman Empire, c. 14th Cent

Ave!

Turkish Dagger Sheath Adornment, Ottoman Empire, c. 14th Cent

Copper alloy; 27mm/3.4gm

Con/ green patina with earthen fill, missing stone.

Seller's Note/ When this Hungary-found artifact arrived the first thing that I thought was that it looked exactly like an Eastern/Turkish/Arabic knife sheath. I showed it to Sheri and she said the same thing and noted the missing gem stone/glass bead.

The only explanation that we can figure is that was owned by an Ottoman Empire soldier/officer during the invasion of Hungary in the 1500s. What it was attached to or how used is an enigma; your guess is as good as ours.

Still and all, it's a delightful bit of Medieval history that can only be found here on NRC.
