Ave!

Manuel I Comnenus, Billon Trachy, Christ enthroned

Billon trachy; 28mm/2.9gm, Constantinople mint, struck c. 1143-1180 AD

Con/ at Very Fine (for the issue); typical weak strike on the obverse, crisp reverse with traces of the legend

Obv/ IC - XC; Christ seated on throne, facing, holding book of gospels in left hand, no star above.

Rev: MANVHL DECPOT; The Virgin, right, crowning Manuel wearing loros, holding labarum with cross.

Ref/ SBCV 1966 var.

Sellers Note/ Quality control at the mint was nearly non-existent and we're pleased to present this trachy as a much better than normal example.
