AR Subaeratus; 17.5mm/3.8gm   Rome -- ca, 47 BC

Con/ Some loss of plating and the reverse struck with a very worn die, otherwise, about Very Fine. Bright and lustrous; much better in hand!

Obv/ Facing mask of Medusa with disheveled hair; coiled serpents flanking; below, L PLAVTIVS.

Rev/ Winged Aurora flying right, head slightly left, holding palm frond, conducting the four rearing horses of the sun. Below, PLANCVS.

Seller's Note/ These ever popular issues are rare and always priced for multiple hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars. 

So why is our price so low? Because it is a contemporary forgery and most likely struck from worn official dies that should have been destroyed, but were not! Wow!
