Ave!

Danube Celts, AR Tetradrachm, Sirmium, 2nd Cent BC

Derived from the Macedonian Kingdom of Philip II

Silver alloy; 23mm/11.1gm   "Kugelwange" type

Con/ A few and negligible die-rust inclusions, otherwise, about Extremely Fine; boldly struck on each side; superior image of Zeus and an extraordinarily superb example of a Celtic horse and rider..

Obv/ Laureate and bearded head of Zeus r.

Rev/ Horse prancing left, all legs raised. Rider seated left, reaching behind to hold branch.

Seller's Note/ Our price for this simply gorgeous example is ridiculously low, folks as it is a tetradrachm rather than the more common drachm.

Sirmia was a fertile region of the Pannonia Plain in Europe, between the Danube and Sava rivers. Today, it is divided between Serbia in the east and Croatia in the west.
