Ave!

Danube Celts, AR Drachms, Matched Dies! ca. 200-100 BC, 2-Pack!

Derived from the Macedonian Kingdom of Philip II

Good Silver; each at ca. 14mm/2.0gm

Con/ A few and negligible inclusions, otherwise, Extremely Fine; boldly struck on each side; superior images of Celtic-styled Zeus and an extraordinarily superb examples of a Celtic-styled horse.

Obv/ Laureate head of Zeus right

Rev/ Free horse prancing left; cross above and circle and dot pattern below.

Ref/ None...too rare!

Seller's Note/ Oh my goodness, these two exquisite issues were actually struck from the very same obverse and reverse dies! Priced individually, NRC would ask $100 or so, but for such a matched die pair? The sky is the limit, trust me. Any other dealer would post such a pair at least for $500 or more. Happily for you, we are not greedy and just pleased to offer them to you at our listed price of only $275.

Settled by Celtic tribes, Sirmia was a fertile region of the Pannonian Plain in Europe, between the Danube and Sava rivers. Today, it is divided between Serbia in the east and Croatia in the west.
