Ave!

M. Sergius Silus, Denarius, Holding Human Head Reverse, Ancient Forgery!

Silver-plated; 19mm/3.0gm    Rome, ca. 116-115 BC

Con/ Loss of silver plate on the obverse, otherwise, about Very Fine.

Obv/ Helmeted head of Roma right, ROMA and star behind, EX. S. C before. (See seller's note below!)

Rev/ Helmeted soldier on galloping horse left, holding sword and severed head, Q below, M. SERGI above exergue and SILVS below.

Ref/ Crawford 286/1; Sydenham 534; RSC Sergia 1.

Seller's Note/ Yeah, I know the obverse is a disaster, and our listed price seems perhaps a bit too high, but this is a scarce and very collectible issue. I mean, who doesn't want a coin featuring a mounted Roman soldier holding a severed human head? LOL!
