Obv/ IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, laureate and draped bust right

Ref/ LIBERTAS AVG; Libertas standing l., holding pileus and scepter; star in right field.

Seller's Note/ Libertas was the Roman personification of Liberty...but unfortunately the Roman citizens weren't feeling much about his version of "liberty" and neither did his grandmother, Julia Maesa. Embarrassed and fed up by the antics of Elagabalus, she forced a coup that deposed him and Julia Soaemias, in favor of her other grandson, Severus Alexander one year after this issue was struck in 222 AD. Bet he didn't see that one coming!
