Ave!

Claudius II Gothicus, Antoninianus, Aequitas, Unlisted in RIC

Æ; 19mm/4.1gm  Struck ca. 268-270 AD.

Con/ about Very Fine; glossy near black patina, sharp strikes and perfect centering on both sides; particularly elegant figure of Aequitas

Obv/ IMP CLAVDIVS PF AVG; radiate and draped bust r.

Rev/ AEQVITAS AVG; Aequitas std. l., holding scales and cornucopia; S below.

Milan Mint?

Ref/ RIC Vol 5a, 138 var.?

Seller's Note/ My goodness, what a curious coin! First off, RIC does not note this obverse legend from Milan without the C between IMP and CLAVDIVS. The closest reference we could find with S in the exergue is from the mint at Milan, but that Aequitas is listed without the cornucopia as seen in our example. The antoninianus issues of Claudius II are, sadly, normally presented in really bad shape; our's is not.

An excellent opportunity for you to add a 'perhaps' non-listed issue to your collection at a very low price.
