Ave!

Thrace, Thasos, Herakles with Bow and Club reverse, Rare!

Æ; 17mm/3.6gm          Struck ca. 340-300 BC

Con/ An excellent example of this rare issue with a sharp obverse and clear reverse legend; struck on a typically short flan, otherwise, Good Very Fine.

Obv/ Bearded head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress.

Rev/ ΘAΣIΩN; Bow with amphora inside above, club and monogram below.

Seller's Note/ Herakles with bow and club reverse is rather common on ancient Greek coins, but why the amphora? Thasos is an island located in the Aegean Sea just off the coast of Thrace and was famous for its wine!
