Ave!

Harness, Strap End with Loop, c. 1st-2nd Cent.

This Ring and Junction-loop type dates from Augustan era to mid-second century AD.

Copper alloy; 95mm (loop included) / 28.6gm

Con/ As Fabricated; glossy green patina; cleaned and waxed

Seller's Note/ The strap end was cast as one piece, engraved, bent about the loop, and then two rivets were added to firmly hold the leather strap. In all cases, at least two, three, or four straps were attached to a single ring. Ours has obviously lost one of the strap-end loops but was certainly a part of a two strap outfit as seen by the heavy and long time wear on the ring.
