Ring, Medieval, Men's, Merchants Signet, 13th-16th Cent
Copper alloy; 4.6gm, Ring size 8 1/4
Con/ As fabricated; dark green copper patina, sound and wearable
Description/ One piece casted and engraved bronze. Large letter "T" with crosshatching, engraved with decorative Lombardic script, flanked by three pellets, all within a round engraved border.
Pollio suggests that such signet rings were not used as the owners initial, per se, but rather by a certain guild of merchants in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Sadly, who such merchants were, and their products, has been lost to time.
