Ave!
Ring, Medieval, Men's with Signet Intaglio, ca. 14th-16th Cent
Copper alloy; Ring size 10 1/2
Con/ Wearable; choice dark green patina, cleaned and waxed
Description/ Created in two parts, the bezel was custom engraved, and then soldered onto the custom sized band. On the bezel, a large sinuous S flanked by vine tendrils. When first arrived, we considered this to be another Travelers type, showing a river, etc.. Whoops! It wasn't until we made an impression of the bezel that we discovered it was a Signet ring!
Seller's Note/ Such signet rings must have been quite costly back in the day as each was custom made for the wearer. As seen in the photo, this fellow's name began with an S and certainly was used sealing wax impressions. But there's more! The really cool part is that the bezel had no upside down; it could be impressed any which way. Nice!
This 'manly man's' ring is so big it was more than likely worn over a glove.
Rings were made to be worn, not tucked away. The longer this ring is worn the better it will look!
