Roman-era Ladies Hair Pin, Crook-shaped with Pendent, Extremely Rare! c. 1st-3rd Cent.
Copper alloy; 91mm/4.8gm
Con/ As fabricated; green and brown patina, cleaned not waxed.
Backstory/ Upon arrival, this hair pin was covered with blobs hard mud. It wasn't until all the mud was washed off that all was finally seen, pendent and all.
Seller's Note/ Birds on hair pins was a common but popular motif for Roman ladies...but not on this example. As seen, this hair pin has a purposely made crook-shaped terminal (not plow damage) with small pendent attached.
Our complete hair pin is extremely rare if not unique? As nearly all such hair pins were plow-broken after 1700 years in the ground this one stands out as so over-the-top that you'll slide onto the other side, just like me! You may never see another one, especially at our low price, trust me.
