Roman ladies tended to wear pins with lovely designs such as birds or a hand holding a pearl; ours features a three tiered finial.

We see lots broken types on eBay, advertised as 'voting sticks' at exorbitant high prices. They are NOT voting sticks but rather simple hair pins.
