From the Vada M Sandes Collection

Maya Eccentric Snake Flint, c. 500-800 AD

Chert; 14.5CM/193gm

Con/ as knapped; acid washed to remove stony inclusions.

Provenance/ Our best guess is the ancient Maya city of Lamanai, Belize. It was only after her demise in 2012 that we found this eccentric flint in a disintegrating shoe-box in her garage. We knew she had traveled there with a group of Christian Baptist missionaries back in 1963 to Belize, (I was only 12 years old at that time) but exactly where she collected it is moot.
