Ave!

Avar, Harness Strap Divider, ca. 7th Century AD, Scarce!

Copper Alloy; 77mm/49.0gm

Con/ about As Cast; pale green patina.

Seller's Note/ The conquering Avars were noted for using stirrups which aided their horse-back archery skills to dominate their opponents. Where such 3-way harness strap dividers were added to the horses tack is moot. They could have been used on the horses chest or further to the rump. Either way, as seen in the photo, ours has seen years of serious wear.

Very cool, rather scarce in this non-broken condition and best displayed in a shadowbox.
