The Romans began to assimilate Celtic soldiers into their legions in the eastern provinces of Dalmatia and Pannonia beginning in the 1st-2nd century AD. Such Celtic tribes brought their own ancient symbols and artistry, not only in military items, but brooches, as well. One of their symbols was the swastika. In ancient Sanskrit, the swastika equated to "well-being".
