Ave!

Ring, Roman, Child's, ROMA Intaglio, ca. 1st- 3rd Cent.

Copper alloy; 3.8gm   Ring size 3 1/4

Con/ Missing upper engraved letters...sigh...

Seller's Note/ When arrived, this ring was so highly corroded, our only recourse was to strip it to the bare metal. Sadly, while the engraved lower legend ROMA is seen, the upper legend is too pitted to be read.

Our conjecture is that the upper engraving was VRBS. VRBS ROMA = City of Rome. As this ring was ground-found in an area containing broken Roman bricks, pottery shards, and many other copper alloy artifacts and Roman coins, the field was most certainly the location of a large Roman villa. Continuing our conjecture, we wonder if the villa's owner traveled to Rome for one reason or another, and returned with souvenir gifts for his family?
