Ave!

Danube Celts, AR Obol, Sirmium, 2nd Cent BC, Rare!

Derived from the Macedonian Kingdom of Philip II

Good Silver; 11mm/0.8gm   "Kugelwange" type?

Con/ about Extremely Fine; boldly struck on each side; superior image of Zeus and an extraordinarily superb example of a Celtic-styled horse.

Obv/ Laureate bust of Zeus right, within dotted border.

Rev/ Horse prancing left, left foreleg raised.

Ref/ None; most likely unpublished!

Seller's Note/ Our price for this simply gorgeous example is ridiculously low, folks, as it is neither a tetradrachm, nor the rather more common drachm. Instead it is an obol, which are rare as hen's teeth, trust me.

Sirmia was a fertile region of the Pannonian Plain in Europe, between the Danube and Sava rivers. Today, it is divided between Serbia in the east and Croatia in the west.
