Dinosaur Gastrolith, Dinosaur Gizzard Stones, c. 150 Million BC.
Gastrolith, or dinosaur gizzard stones, or simply 'dino-barf', are stones that vegetarian dinosaurs swallowed into their crop, just like our chickens use today to grind up their food in their gizzard. Once the stones became too smooth to grind and digest their crops, they would vomit them out, and then seek new less-smooth stones. In most cases, they can appear to be simple washed river stones, but here is the difference:-
All gastroliths are worn smooth from the crop and have a near-oily surface, as well as pores/vessels from the acid in the crop. Once you hold one in hand, it's quite easy to see the difference between the them.
Similar gastrolith are offered on eBay from $7 - $49.95, dependent upon the size. Our price is only $3.95 each.
