Ring, Roman, Ladies, Carnelian with Amphora Intaglio, ca. 1st - 3rd Cent AD

Copper alloy; 1.8gm, Ring size 6 3/4

Con/  As Cast and Engraved; Certainly wearable, this delicate and charming ring needs a happy finger!

Description/ The band cast as one piece after which the engraved red carnelian was glued into place on the bezel. Most likely of provincial origin, perhaps ancient Siscia or Mursa Major?

Seller's Note/ Carnelian stones, which were immensely popular throughout Greco-Roman antiquity, originated from deposits in the Arabian Peninsula and India. Like the Egyptians and the Greeks, the Romans believed that the carnelian stone was endowed with magical powers capable of warding off the evil eye!

Wear this ring with pride! Rings were made to be worn, not tucked away. The longer this ring is worn the better it will look.
