Ave!

Eagle, Small Box, ca. 1st-3rd Cent, RARE!

Copper alloy; 29mm/8.4gm

Con/ As Cast; dark green patina, cleaned and waxed.

Obv/ Eagle standing facing, looking right, wings spread.

Rev/ Unadorned, single attachment pin.

Seller's Note/ Oh my goodness, what a wonderful and extremely rare artifact! Nothing says Rome better than an eagle, right? Right! And eagles were certainly important with the Roman legions as well. Most likely this wonderful eagle was affixed to a fancy small locking box, wrought of either wood, bronze, or perhaps even both? Ground-found, south of the River Drava, in a field that had once housed a large Roman villa, we wonder if the owner had previously served in the legions?
