Ave!

Danube Celts, Decadrachm, Pendent, ca 2nd Cent. BC

Beginning about 300 BC, the Danubian Celtic tribes began to imitate the images on the coins of Philip and Alexander the Great (Zeus obverse and Horse reverse) but in their own particular style.

Æ 31mm/14.2gm   "Kugelwange" type

Con/ After appropriate cleaning, about Very Fine for the issue, glossy pale olive green patina.

Obv/ Laur. bust of Zeus r. (Celtic-style) ;-)

Rev/ Free horse prancing left.

Seller's Note/ One day, over two thousand years ago, a Celtic individual holed this coin to wear as a pendent. NRC has listed any number of such "holed" Roman coins but this is only the second one of Celtic origin. Wow!

Yeah, I know the images do not show well in the photo but, trust me, in hand they are clear as a bell.
