Ave!
Axe, Stone, Sopot Culture, ca, 5000 BC, Rare!
Polished Stone; 80mm/122gm!
Con/ Literally As Polished and Used.
Description/ Bi-faced, as seen in the photos, the business end is slightly curved. The top is flat and the bottom is rounded, while the hammer end is polished flat.
Use/ Due to the size of this artifact, whether it was used in-hand or bound to a wooden handle, is moot. See the final photo of it in my hand.
Ref/ An archeological site near Vinkovci, Croatia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopot_culture
Seller's Note/ Ground-found by an enthusiast walking the banks of the Danube river at low-tide, spotted it and removed it from the river mud. Oh, what a lucky man he was! Over all these years NRC has received any number of similar polished Neolithic stone artifacts, but sadly, none of them have were provenanced as to the exact era or culture. In this case our reference to the Sopot Culture is exactly as noted above.
This very rare stone axe is perfect for anyone's office desk or other display.
Now, just imagine how, if anyone asks you about it, you can nonchalantly reply: "Oh, that old thing? It's just a seven-thousand year old Sopot culture stone axe." Pretty cool, right? LOL!
