Ave!

Ring, Roman, Ladies, Victory Intaglio, ca. 1st Cent

Copper alloy; 2.5gm  -- Ring size 6

Con/ Weathered with surface porosity, otherwise, As Cast and Engraved; Polished not waxed and certainly wearable, this delicate and charming ring needs a happy finger!

Description/ Cast as one piece, this should-type ring features winged Victory standing right, holding a palm branch.

Ref/ Pollio Guiraud Type Two

Seller's Note/ Nothing more expresses ancient Rome more than Victory herself. Such images of Victory were always shown on Roman coins after successful battles...but exactly which battle is moot. As to who wore this ring is also moot but most likely the girlfriend of a common Roman legionaire, not rich, nor poor, but had enough denarius to purchase, and gift, such an inexpensive ring. Well, your guess is as good as ours.

Rings were made to be worn, not tucked away. The longer this ring is worn the better it will look!
