Ave!
Zoomorphic Dolphin Handle, Roman Dalmatia, 2nd-3rd Cent. AD
Copper alloy/ 100mm/53.6gm (broken in half so double the size and weight for 'as unbroken')
Much too large to be Roman helmet 'carry handle' yet similar to A&L # AA.4.10. Our piece shares similarities, but please note the very obvious phallic end to the dolphin's tail.
Most likely, this was a handle for a large cabinate or furniture pull from a wealthy Roman citizen that had the denarius to afford such a fancy item.
Rare/ scarce in this condition and perfect for collectors.
