Roman-era Table Knife Handle, c. 2nd-4th Cent. - Balkan found.
Copper alloy; 50mm/28.7gm; dark brown patina with green patina highlights.
As presented in the photo, this four-sided plinth-shaped handle has a flat botton and grooves at the stop where the blade would have been attached. It was designed so that it could be rested on the table, blade up.
A beautiful reminder that even in the Dalmatian and Pannonian Provinces, there was still decorum in middle-class Roman homes.
