Bronze Age Socketed Spear Point, Urnfield Culture c. 1000-800 BC
Copper alloy; 118mm/61.2gm, original glossy bronze; cleaned not waxed.
From a small hoard of axes, sword hilts and spear points found near the Danube River. Such hoards were often deposited near rivers and wet places like swamps. As these spots were often quite inaccessible, they most probably represent gifts to the gods.
A very rare and beautiful artifact; museum quality.
Seller's Note/ This 3000-year old bronze spear point is remarkable. The line-and-dot motif is still as clear as the day it was cast and the dot motif continues around the attachment holes. Simply superb, it will be a true gem for even the most discerning ancient weapons collector. The reason that this 3000-year-old point is in such fantastic condition is due to the lack of oxygen in the mud which inhibits corrosion.
