Carinus, Silvered Antoninianus, Vota Publica, Siscia

Æ 22mm/3.2gm

Con/ aEF; perfectly centered on both sides, crisp and complete legends, near complete silvering.

Obv/ IMP CM AVR CARINVS PF AVG; radiate and cuirassed bust right, as seen from behind.

Rev/ VOTA PVBLICA; Carinus and Numerian stg. r. and l., sacrificing over altar; two ensigns behind them.

Siscia mint; SMSXXIB in exergue.

Ref/ RIC Vb 315 (common)

Seller's Note/ During the reign of Carinus, the mint at Siscia only struck three different antoninianus issues, this being one of them. RIC notes the bust type as rad. and cuir. but not "as seen from behind", as in our presentation. There are only two examples of this issue listed in Wildwinds and both feature the common bust type. Is this coin rare? Pretty sure. :-)
