Roman Ring Key, Ornate, circa 1st-2nd Cent AD
Copper alloy; 29mm/4.4gm
Con/ as cast; remarkable and eye-pleasing green patina; cleaned and waxed.
A truly wonderful example of a ring key that was used to keep things secret and safe by well-to-do ancient Romans. The lock maker who created this spectacular key was a master smith and it is certainly one of the finest of this type that NRC has ever presented.
Such ring keys were worn on a chain or strap about the neck, but if you are so inclined, it's a ring size 5 3/4
